Reviews

Here are some of the reviews we have received over the past recent years:

Hands down, best Chinese food on 10th. I eat in and take-out from here weekly. You know that sort of thick, heavy feeling you get after eating Chinese food sometimes? This place does not do that.

Squid with Peppery Salt is my favourite splurge dish. It’s pricy, as are most of the fish menu items, but worth it and good portion size. Also love the Ginger Beef, Dai Ching Chicken and House Noodles.

Always polite, helpful customer service and they give you a free spring roll or soup with orders over $50.” – by Elizabeth C. on yelp

“I feel i should clarify… it’s: As good as it gets… around Point Grey!

Even though i work around here, i used to refuse to go in because i never believed in the Chinese places outside of Richmond.  Was i ever wrong.

Ever since my co-worker bought me to this place a year ago, I’ve been going back there for lunch at least once a week, and sometimes even 3-4 times a week (yes i’m that hooked).

The food is very good and the price is absolutely amazing.  If you get the daily specials it’s only $6 before tax and tip.  Even if you order off the menu is $8 before tax and tip.

My fav dish from this place: Ginger Beef… [the reason why i go back every week, i need my fix!]” – by James P. on yelp

“If you are looking for amazing Chinese food near UBC, this might be it.   I love their speedy delivery (and unforgettable phone number: 604-222-2223) and excellent food  (check previous review) so I decided to try dining-in for the first time.  I was really impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant and the good lighting (not too bright, not dark)  and overall calm atmosphere.  I love how its in Point Grey, where it is so relaxed and quiet even during weekends.

Lunch is about $9, which includes rice, wonton soup or sweet and sour soup or spring rolls.

The squid curry and shrimp with vegetables were not at all greasy nor heavy which was perfect for lunch.  Vegetables tasted very fresh and to my surprise didn’t taste so westernized.  However, the sweet and sour soup I had leaned more towards the western side (because of its sweetness)

So, I’d say it is a hit or miss since some dishes may be more westernized than others, but I don’t have a problem with it so it was great.  Try their dim sum dishes!  I had their turnip pastry and it was delicious!! ($4 for 3)

Overall an excellent place to have a quick hot meal.” – by Ayaka H. on yelp

“Just thinking about Ginger & Chili restaurant makes my mouth water.  I dare you to find a better place in Vancouver.  Thanks to the other reviews, I decided to order deliver from here after 3 long days of camping and to my amazement, our food arrived in about 15 minutes and piping hot.

What we ordered:

-Snow peas with Chinese mushrooms and Bamboo:  This had the perfect amount of seasoning and not greasy/heavy at all.  A highly recommended vegetable dish. Loved it so much I feel inspired to make my own version.

-Seafood Chow Mein:  Crispy noodles were delicious and had plenty of shrimp and squid.  I’ve ordered chow mein from lots of places and I have to say this is the best I’ve had.

– Vegetarian Spring Rolls: Very similar to what I have back in Hong Kong.  Delicious, crispy and ADDICTIVE.

The man who delivered our food was so sweet and I can tell he is a very humble and good-natured guy.

Because I was so completely blown away by the food, I would like to try everything on the menu.  Although it’s quite a statement, it’s the truth!” – by Ayaka H. on yelp

“EXCELLENT food and service, been eating here for several years. The staff now recognize us and always remember my favorite dishes! The food is prepared with TLC in this family operation and it’s always delicious. Not once have we not liked all of it! The green beans are their signature dish I’d say, definitely the best in Vancouver.” – by MMMSVancouverBC on tripadvisor

“The house special ginger beef must be one of the best dishes in the city-Perfectly crispy and sweet. Other personal favs are salt and peppery cod, spring rolls, and all of their noodle dishes. This place is a gem.” – by Southern C. on yelp

“Some restaurants, in the face of rising costs, will reduce portion sizes in an effort to keep prices steady. The trouble with this strategy is that they alienate long-time customers while still only reducing food costs; what of overhead costs such as rent or labour? We’re happy to report that Ginger and Chili has taken a different route. Prices, while not high, are slightly more than one might expect. The portion sizes, however, are generous. Our visit today featured efficient and pleasant service, as well as delicious food, in a comfortable room. As a bonus they have draught beer, bottled beer and wine.” – by famished foodies on urbanspoon

“The ambiance in this hole-in-the-wall restaurant is not the best, it’s pretty sparse. Much of their business seems to be takeout. However, their food is *fantastic*, and the service is excellent. I’ve been here several times, and find that it’s a great value with large groups as the servings are huge. Their ginger beef is probably their best dish.” – by torok on dinehere

“Have been coming here for years. Excellent!” – by Anna Kim on urbanspoon

“We’ve eaten in and ordered take-out from Ginger and Chili, and the food has always been top-notch. You cannot eat here and not order the ginger beef – it’s addictive! The lemon chicken is also pretty good. Hot and sour soup is very good. Every time we’ve had home delivery, it’s been extremely quick, and it is always the same, very cheerful fellow who arrives at our door, proclaiming “Chinese food!!”” – by Crispy on dinehere

“This is one of my local restaurants and I have eaten here a few times.  The portions are large and the tastes are spot on.  The most recent time my wife and I both had soup. The portions for a bowl were enourmous and the quality was good.  I use Wonton soup as a benchmark… tasty, large pasta based shapes nice taste and no chemicals… my head was not buzzing afterward.   I have been there and had a variety of dishes.. no let downs. Overall, good value for money.” – by masked4areason on urbanspoon

“This is a family operated eatery that I always look forward to visiting. This is not a fancy upscale room, but a neighbourhood icon that has earned a trusted reputation. Jenny and her staff work hard to bring the food fresh and hot every time. The food is consistently good and well-portioned, and the menu widely varied. Prices are reasonable. If you are in the UBC/Point Grey area, and are in the mood for reliable and reasonably-priced Chinese cuisine, give Ginger and Chili a try.” – by happywandererBC on tripadvisor

“I’ve been ordering my chinese from here for well over 10 years and have always been really happy with it and highly recommend it. I’ve ordered take-out and have sat in the restaurant with friends and they really enjoyed it as well.” – by James Campbell on urbanspoon

“Always love this place for comforting Chinese food!  We ordered their house special ginger beef, eggplant in chili and garlic, and peppery salt squid.  Everything was hot and tasty – even the heated up leftovers the next day still tasted great.

We usually order take out delivery but occasionally make it down for an in house meal.  The food tastes even better when you dine-in and the ambience feels cozy and relaxed.” – by hungry h. on yelp
